Open Science Initiatives Observatory

The Open Science Initiatives Observatory a proposal developed within the framework of the CAETIN project (Open Science in Spain: the transition towards a new research model), funded by the Spanish State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation (PID2021-125828OB-I00).

Its goal is to create a knowledge base that gathers, organizes, and disseminates innovative, relevant, and transformative initiatives in open science, identified and analyzed across five key areas:

  • Open science policies
  • Research data
  • New models for research assessment
  • Open educational resources
  • Citizen science and social innovation

These initiatives include platforms, programs, associations, projects, resources, and regulatory frameworks that promote exemplary approaches to open science. They originate from a prior collection effort and are currently available in documentary format. The Observatory aims to transform them into a structured database to facilitate their management, consultation, and reuse by the scientific community and society at large.

The Observatory is currently being updated and expanded. The published initiatives and the information in each record are reviewed periodically to ensure that the content remains current and of high quality. Likewise, the repository will incorporate new initiatives as the work of identifying, analysing, and structuring the information progresses.

Objectives of the Observatory

  • Highlight inspiring experiences linked to open science
  • Foster the exchange of knowledge and lessons learned among institutions
  • Provide a useful tool for policymakers, support teams, and researchers
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of scientific practices from an ethical and responsible perspective
  • Promote knowledge transfer to society

The creation of the Observatory has been made possible thanks to the joint work of several people:

  • Carolina Andreu Ramos, conceptualization of the Observatory and content development.
  • Ana Carballo-García, website design and development, technical support, and content development.
  • Melba Claudio-González, design of the templates and content development.
  • Arnau Creus, content development.
  • Jorge Franganillo, logo design.
  • Josep Manuel Rodríguez Gairín, technical support.
  • Berta Ollé, conceptualization of the Observatory and content development.
  • Anna Villarroya, conceptualization of the Observatory, template design, and content validation.
